Hi Silver Emulsion! I don’t know dick about Gunsmith Cats, but I have some general questions about anime. Plus now I feel like I can’t NOT contribute to the Silver Emulsion mailbag. I think anime series have the coolest titles in the history of titles. What I’ve always wondered is how much of it is a literal translation from Japanese and how much is an English translation just taking liberties? When you have shit titled like Peachy Vampire Magic School Asugi: Redemption Flower, that has to be a direct translation, right? I made that title up, but you get the point. You never see English titles that creative-sounding so I assume these cool titles are direct translations. Either way, I love them! Other titles are boring in comparison. Hollywood will call their robot movie Battle Robots, but the Japanese will call it Mecha Wing Ace Flyer Shintaro 3.3 Ghoul.
Also, another question. I have yet to see any anime that I thought smelled fart, but I’m pretty much a n00b I admit. They’ve all been pretty great and some, like Neon Genesis Evangelion, is possibly my favorite animated thing ever. I still think of it almost once a week and I still haven’t recovered from the mind-blowing I got. And it’s been like 10 years since I watched it. But where I get overwhelmed and confused is all the genes and sub-genres of anime. There’s shit like ecchi, mecha, hentai (a personal favorite ), and fuck…Harambe or something like that. I don’t know what any of it means! I know hentai is porno and ero-guro is something I stumbled upon like I was on the Dark Web. But is there a specific sub-genre of anime that’s…mindfucky? Or creepy psychological stuff? I’ve usually just googled shit like “kool animay” and “krazy kartoonz” and blindly watch some recommendations. I remember blindly watching some “krazy shit”, and I can’t remember the name, Deviljuko or something, that ended up being like 90 minute tentacle porn with demons. So is there a specific genre or sub-genre along the lines of mindfucky stuff like Neon Genesis? Or creepy psychological like Perfect Blue? I usually just shoot in the dark, but any pointers will help! Thanks gents!
