Hi guys! Just dropping an asinine anecdote about Over The Top. This isn’t the deepest movie ever made, so there’s not much to contribute or analyze. I haven’t seen Over the Top for like 25 years, but the last time I saw it, I’ll never forget. I remember in like 7th grade going to a friend’s house for the first time which is always a little awkward. My friend was like 7 feet, 15 inches and he used to shoot chickens with his BB gun, so this was kind of the environment I was in. We all gathered around the table to eat fucking meatloaf except for my friend’s dad who was in the living room watching TV. We all ate awkwardly in front of his mom and she yelled to the other room “Honey aren’t you going to eat?” and he replied something like “Bring that shit in here babycakes!” We all went in the living room shortly after and my friend’s dad was eating meatloaf with the plate pressed against his chest and was in the middle of watching Over the Top. So now it made sense why he didn’t want to eat with his son and wife. It’s fucking Over the Top we’re talking about. He was rocking a giant beard, oily hat, and a flannel ass shirt. It’s almost like he dressed up as a trucker to watch this shitfest. Anyway, there’s a scene where Stallone’s kid is kidnapped out of nowhere. And once this scene happened, my friend’s dad jumped out of his seat and screamed “WHO THE HELL ARE THESE GUYS?!” And I watched as meatloaf fucking flew out of his mouth. He was so invested in Over the Top that he just couldn’t hold it in! I can’t remember jack shit from that movie, but I’ll never forget watching that reaction to a fucking arm wrestling movie. One might say his reaction was Over the Top.
That’s all I got. Keep up the fine reviews gentlemen.
