Episode 15! I missed last week so this episode is an almost three-hour super show! Test your patience with some talk about Christmas Evil, New Year’s Evil, Zombie Nightmare, a pair of Sammo Hung movies and a bunch of other dope Hong Kong films! Happy New Year!
Music NotesIntro:
- Theme to the 1974 Shaw Brothers Film Heroes Two
- Originally from the Japanese TV show “特別機動捜査隊” (which translates to Special Mobility Investigation Corps). English information on this show is nearly non-existent, but I found a YouTube video MIDI re-creation of the theme that lists it as the theme for the 1964 season. The show’s IMDB is here.

Well, it’s certainly not Hong Kong, but the only bronze men that I can think of are the ones from the last level of Golden Axe on the Genesis. At least I’ve always assumed they were bronze. They’re a pair of green statues that come to life and attack you. They probably rate below the bronze standard, though, since you can just throw them off a cliff and be done with them. I was always a bit disappointed that the other two statues in the same room never come to life since those looked way cooler. Maybe they would have made the bronze standard.
There’s also a DC superhero called Robot Man that looks like he might be made of bronze, but I’m not sure.
I finally got around to watching Christmas Evil based on your recommendation! I always liked the shitty hand drawn poster for it and I remember seeing the cover in video stores when I was a kid. For the longest time though, I thought Christmas Evil was another title for Silent Night Deadly Night and always assumed I saw it, or I just had the covers mixed up. How many Santas with axes exist on movie posters? After hearing your review a while back, I started wondering if I actually did see it. Great flick though! The main character was damn good and you could tell it was made with a lot of love. It was hard to tell where it was going at first and it surprisingly wasn’t a typical horror Santa slasher. It kind of played out like a Christmasy Taxi Driver. “First you had Travis Bickle, now meet Travis Kringle!” (Boooo!) Hahaha! The movie had a great sense of humor too and I’m a fan of the ending as well! Surprised this movie seems to fall through the cracks. Probably because it’s not horror enough for horror fans, but too weird for anyone else. Thanks Silver Emulsion for shining some light on this cool shit. It’s a gem! Merry Christmas!
